Your Guide to Public Speaking
Public speaking can be enjoyable! All it takes is a little relaxing and a small amount of confidence. The following public speaking tips can help you relax, be confident and make a good speech into an unforgettable speech.
Relaxation:
Going along with every public speaking tip in every public speaking book or course will not assist you in delivering a fantastic speech… that is, unless you learn to relax. Relaxation is the key to public speaking success.
Get rid of any fears about the perfection of your speech. Your speech is not perfect and never will be. No speech is flawless. Don't think your speech must change the world forever.
The most obvious way to relax is to forget about your public speaking appearance and your speech. Do what you have to do to prepare and then forget about it. Write your speech, edit it, make changes, practice it, memorize it as well as you have to and then forget about it until the time comes to speak.
Make some time before you speak to do something fun. Choose something you enjoy. If you are relaxed and in a good frame of mind, your relaxed and happy spirit will flow over into your public speaking presentation. Plan something to do after your speech as a reward.
Think about how you want to feel after your speech is finished. Do you want to feel like you did not perform your best because you were nervous and concerned? Do you want to feel fantastic because you went out there and gave it all you had despite being terrified?
Confidence:
Be confident and do not show your fear. If you do not feel confident, pretend to be confident. Walk on stage with your head held high and smile at your audience.
Smiles are powerful. When you give your audience a smile, they will smile at you. All this smiling will boost your confidence. Smiling creates positive energy in the room. It will allow your audience to be confident in you as a speaker and you confident in delivering your speech.
Remember your audience wants you to do a good job. They want to learn and be entertained or uplifted by you.
Keep in mind that you are in control. You are the expert, the speaker, and the audience is watching and reacting to you. Let the knowledge of your power at that moment in time take over, building your public speaking confidence and limiting your public speaking fear.
